Below is the press release announcing the new Rotax National Points Ranking.
June 15, 2008
The United States Rotax Kart
Challenge program is proud to announce the return of a national points ranking
system for all of it’s drivers competing in more than 25 local and regional
RMax Challenge series around the country.
From 2002-2004 drivers were ranked by points they earned at their local
series but because many of reasons the effort to gather, assemble and then
report the standings this program was discontinued. At the beginning of 2007 all membership and
series administrative functions were moved to my office. From the beginning of 2007 one of my goals
has been to bring back a national ranking system for our racers. After more than a year of research,
development and testing we have a system that will allow us to recognize the
top drivers in our local series. One of
the main areas of concerns is always how to award points to drivers in series
that only have a few participants versus large classes in the bigger
series. What we have developed is a
weighted points system using a multiplication factor based on the number of
registered drivers in a class for each series.
The more registered drivers the more points can be earned by those
participating. We believe this will
showcase the best drivers in the country in weekly competition.
This system is not designed to
take away from our annual Grand National Champions is each class. This is where the best racers in the country
compete against each other for the right to stand on the podium. But we also know that there are a lot of top
quality drivers who are not able to attend our premier event and this is a way
to recognize them also.
For the 2008 season we will count
the best 5 races for each registered member and publish these rankings every
2-3 weeks. The season concludes in
December and at this time we will announce the Class National Points champions
and top 4 runner ups in each class. We
will also establish a prize fund to be awarded to the top 5 in each class, this
includes the new Micro Max class. In
2009 we will increase the points to the top 6 finishes for season awards.
We have a lot of racers competing
in local challenges all over the country and only a small percentage of them
are able to attend the US Rotax Grand Nationals each year. We want to make sure every registered RMax
Club Member who competes at the local level is recognized, these racers are the
foundation of our program.
The rankings for each class, an
explanation of the system used to assign the points and a Q & A section can
be found at www.rmaxchallenge.com
click on the Rotax Program tab and go to 2008 Points. The next update is scheduled for the first
week of July.
